WorkCover Assist 2008
The WorkCover Assist Program is a funding initiative of the NSW State Government and WorkCover NSW. The objective of the WorkCover Assist Program is to support eligible NSW organisations in their efforts to assist their members to better understand and adopt key requirements arising from NSW occupational health and safety, workplace injury management and workers compensation legislation.  Eligible NSW organisations are: registered trade unions; not-for-profit employer associations; and, registered not-for-profit group training organisations.  Any other organisations wishing to be involved in the program are encouraged to do so in partnership with an eligible organisation.

The WorkCover Assist Program offers two (2) separate grant types.  These are:

  1. Education & Training Grants
  2. Applied Research Grants – APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN

WorkCover Assist Education and Training Grants

This funding is to be used to tailor information and assistance to the particular needs of specific industry target groups.

Applications are not being accepted for Education and Training grants at this time.  The next funding round will be advertised early in 2009.

Applied Research Grants - Applications close 5pm Friday
26 September 2008

Applied research is original work undertaken primarily to acquire new knowledge with a specific application in view. It is undertaken either to determine possible uses for the findings of basic research or to determine new ways of achieving some specific and predetermined objectives.

This program will enable workplaces to implement evidence-based initiatives to improve understanding and adoption of key requirements of the NSW occupational health and safety and workers compensation legislation.

Eligible organisations are required to develop their idea or concept into a research proposal with a research partner.  Research partners must be from organisations with an established research profile (for example, research centres and university schools or departments).  Successful research projects will be undertaken in agreement between the interested parties under the auspices of the WorkCover NSW Research Centre of Excellence.  The Research Centre will convene an Applied Research Seminar in Sydney on Wednesday 3 September, which will showcase current Applied Research projects and provide an opportunity for potential applicants to find out more about the program.

Applications for funding grants under this Program are subject to funding guidelines and completion of the application form for this initiative.

Applying for a Grant

Prior to applying for a grant, you should:

  1. Read the funding guidelines
  2. Be reasonably acquainted with the requirements of the relevant legislation
  3. Assess all of the risks and costs of your proposed strategy
  4. Ensure that the proposal is realistic and can be delivered within budget and the timeframe.

To be eligible for a grant, applicants must address all of the assessment criteria (as outlined under ‘Assessment of Proposals’ in the Funding Guidelines) when completing the application form.  Your application can only be strengthened by supplying documentation (with the application) that provides evidence that directly answers the assessment criteria.

Funding under the program is a competitive process. Applications are assessed against the advertised selection criteria by a panel chaired by the WorkCover Research Centre of Excellence and comprised of senior WorkCover representatives, industry representatives and independent research professionals and academics.

WorkCover and the WorkCover Research Centre of Excellence may use their discretion and contact applicants for additional supporting information in the course of assessment.
