Workers Compensation compliance and fraud detection program
WorkCover is serious about targeting scheme fraud and abuse to ensure employers have a level playing field and scheme funds are directed to supporting injured workers in their return to work.

As part of its continuing compliance activity, WorkCover has commenced a detection program focusing on non-compliance and fraud in the Workers Compensation Scheme. The detection program uses a combination of computer analysis and visits by WorkCover inspectors to continue the drive to ensure that the Workers Compensation Scheme is fair for all participants.

The program specifically targets non-compliance in the construction, cleaning and labour hire industries. It focuses on businesses in metropolitan and regional areas to:

  • assess the number of employees
  • check wages
  • check worker identities
  • review sub contractors and the work being done
  • report on the principal industry being carried out at the site.

The program is a part of WorkCover’s ongoing commitment to identify the small minority of employers and workers who are defrauding the system and to ensure that the Workers Compensation Scheme is fair for all participants.

If you have any information on workers compensation fraud contact WorkCover’s Fraud Hotline on (02) 4321 5755.
