Nanotechnology
Nanotechnology is the engineering of materials at the molecular level. There are many gaps in the knowledge about the potential risks and benefits of nanotechnology. Because of its unique properties, such as its very small size and large surface area to mass ratio, nanotechnology potentially exposes humans to new and increased risks, raising health concerns particularly for workers. The current pace at which nanotechnology is being developed means that occupational health and safety researchers and regulators already lag behind the current industrial environment. At the request of the WorkCover NSW Executive, the attached paper was prepared to inform WorkCover and it's stakeholders of current issues related to nanotechnology. The paper does not represent NSW Government policy on this matter.
