From 1 October 2012 the
WorkCover certificate of capacity replaces the WorkCover medical certificate as the primary tool for the nominated treating doctor to communicate with all parties involved in the return to work process.
The nominated treating doctor or treating specialist medical practitioner is responsible for completing the
WorkCover certificate of capacity.
The worker is responsible for providing a completed
WorkCover certificate of capacity to the employer or insurer to be eligible for weekly payments.
The certificate is one source of information that may be used by the insurer to inform work capacity assessments and decisions.
A
letter was mailed on 8 October 2012 to 25,000 medical practitioners across NSW containing information about the availability and implementation of the certificate of capacity.
The
Information for medical practitioners completing the WorkCover certificate of capacity provides further detail regarding the certificate of capacity.
