Responsibilities
WorkCover approved psychologists and counsellors provide treatment to injured workers in the NSW workers compensation system with a focus on achieving a safe and durable return to work.
Approval
From 1 January 2010, psychologists and counsellors must be approved by WorkCover to deliver treatment services to injured NSW workers. To apply for an approval number, complete the Psychologist/counsellor WorkCover approval form and forward your application and attachments to:

Fees
Services provided by Workcover approved psychologists or counsellors attract a maximum fee as set out in the Psychology fees order and the Counselling fees order.
Education
To retain their approval number, all WorkCover-approved psychologists and counsellors must attend training prescribed by WorkCover within six months of receiving their provider number. The Australian Psychological Society (APS) provides this training on behalf of WorkCover. Dates, locations and registration information for the training is available via the Australian Psychological Society.

The Treatment principles for the provision of psychological and counselling services has been developed with the Motor Accidents Authority of NSW (MAA), and aims to facilitate a shared understanding of psychological and counselling services under the NSW WorkCover and Motor Accidents Compensation schemes.

Independent consultants
Psychologists and counsellors’ independent consultants (ICs) are registered psychologists or clinical members of the Counsellors and Psychotherapists Association of NSW (CAPA) and are experienced in the assessment, treatment and management of workplace injuries.
Independent consultants provide an independent peer review of treatment and an integral component of this review is consultation with the treating psychologist or counsellor.
