Privacy 

Under the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (NSW), you have the right to know the information that WorkCover collects about users of its website, the purpose for which the information is collected, how the information is used and to whom, if anyone, the information is to be disclosed.

 

Information collected by WorkCover

WorkCover maintains site visit data to help us improve our site. When you look at the pages on the WorkCover website, the following information is automatically recorded:

  • the IP address of the machine that has accessed the webpage
  • your server address
  • your top level domain name (for example, com, gov, au, etc)
  • the date and time of your visit to the site
  • the pages accessed and documents downloaded
  • the type of browser and operating system used. 

 

Your email address

WorkCover will only record your email address if you send a message requesting to join our mailing lists, register to receive our newsletters or attend specific functions. Your email address will only be used for the purpose for which you have provided it unless you agree otherwise and, unless legally required to do so, WorkCover will not disclose it without your consent.

WorkCover will only send our e-mail newsletters to users who ask to receive them. Once you are on one of our mailing databases, you can easily be removed by unsubscribing. Each newsletter provides clear instructions on how to unsubscribe.

If you change e-mail addresses please let us know so we can redirect your e-mail to your new address.

 

 

Cookies

This site contains cookies. A cookie is a small text file that is sent back to your computer’s hard drive from a host web site. They record your preferences in relation to your use of a site and provide us with other information about your enquiry that allows us to recognise you in the future. Cookies are only used on selected online registration forms. The benefit is that the computer remembers your details so that you do not need to re-enter personal data each time you fill out a form.

Use of information collected by WorkCover

WorkCover does not use the information to identify the individual user.

The information collected during each visit is used to identify patterns of usage of the site. To improve the services it provides, WorkCover may extract and publish aggregated information about usage patterns from these records to determine 'web trends’.

WorkCover will not disclose or publish information, which identifies individual machines, or potentially identifies sub-groupings of addresses, without consent or otherwise, in accordance with the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998.

Access to the raw data is restricted to specific officers at WorkCover for analysis and to assess the success of WorkCover in meeting its objectives.

 

Exceptions

WorkCover may gather more extensive information than stated above, in the following circumstances:

  • unauthorised attempts to access files which are not published on the WorkCover website
  • unauthorised tampering or interference with files published on the WorkCover website
  • unauthorised attempts to index the contents of the WorkCover website by other websites
  • attempts to intercept messages of other WorkCover website users
  • communications which are defamatory, abusive, vilify individuals or groups or which give rise to a suspicion that an offence is being committed
  • attempts to otherwise compromise the security of the web server, breach the laws of the State of New South Wales or Commonwealth of Australia, or interfere with the enjoyment of the WorkCover website by other users.

WorkCover may make disclosures to relevant authorities where the use of the website raises a suspicion that an offence is being, or has been, committed.

In the event of an investigation WorkCover will provide access to data to any law enforcement agency that may exercise a warrant to inspect our logs.

In some cases, WorkCover may permit users to submit information or conduct transactions (eg licence applications, purchasing of publications) on its website. As there may be specific legal provisions relating to the use of information submitted for the purpose of conducting an official transaction with WorkCover, the scope of the user's privacy in those cases will be explained on the transaction page.

WorkCover does not have responsibility for the privacy policies or practices of third party sites linked to this website.

 

Use of information on feedback forms

The feedback forms on this website enable users to comment on the provision of service.

The provision of personal details on feedback forms is optional. Users may provide personal details for the purpose of receiving a reply to their feedback. Any personal details provided will be securely stored and used for the purpose of improving the WorkCover website and services.

WorkCover may publish information about feedback on the site, but does not publish information that identifies or can be used to identify individual users.
