WorkCover assisting you to keep your business safe and successful

Safe Business

Mentor Information

WorkCover’s mentor program provides an opportunity for large businesses to share their knowledge, experience and lessons learned in OHS, workers compensation and injury management.

‘We consider it a privilege to work with the mentee businesses, assisting them to develop and implement their own OHS systems and policies. Tyco encourage any large organisation to get involved – sharing knowledge and ideas can benefit all involved.’
- 2008 mentor Tyco Flow Control Pacific

What are the benefits?
You have the potential to:

  •  raise your business profile in industry and the community
  •  help your industry improve its OHS, workers compensation and injury management
  •  increase networks and visibility
  •  develop partnerships
  •  strengthen your knowledge base and improve communication skills
  • influence the supply chain.

What does the program involve?
The program is run over eight months. As a mentor business you will:

  • meet with your mentee business via onsite visits to the mentee workplace
  • attend WorkCover information sessions, an action plan workshop and mentor briefing sessions
  • be supported by training and tools to help you mentor your small business mentees.

WorkCover provides technical and administrative support to mentors and mentees throughout the program.

It’s important that the designated OHS representatives from the mentor businesses remain for the duration of the program to develop and maintain effective relationships with mentees. Mentor businesses should ensure contingency plans are in place to allow for possible movement of staff.
